There are a few reasons why your Mill may not run at its scheduled time.
You didn’t add many food scraps that day
The Mill will only run if it sees new food scraps totaling roughly 100g (0.22 lbs) (for Mill 1st gen.) or 0.44 lbs (for Mill Plus), which is about 2 banana peels. This is the Mill’s way of conserving energy. Mill Essential does not have a mass system and uses sensors to determine whether enough new scraps have been added to merit running a full cycle.
For Mill Plus and Mill 1st gen., your Mill’s scale may need to be reset
If you did add food scraps, and your Mill still didn’t run, then its scale may need to be reset. This should sort things out:
- Take out bucket
- If you used the foot pedal to open the bucket, take your foot off the pedal
- Make sure you’re not pressing the lid button and that there’s nothing on the lid
- With the lid closed and bucket out, wait ~10 seconds
- Put the bucket back in
Your lid may not be closed all the way
The Mill doesn’t run a Dry & Grind cycle if it senses the lid is not closed. Try opening and closing your lid. Check that nothing is stuck in the lid lock. You could also try starting a Dry & Grind cycle by double-tapping the lid button or from the Mill app, which will start correctly if the lid has closed all the way.
Your Mill is on vacation mode
Your Mill will automatically go into vacation mode if you don’t add any food scraps. Once all fresh scraps have been processed by your Mill, your grounds will remain shelf stable. But if your bucket is totally empty, it shouldn’t run at all.
