Heads up that this might be a little dusty. Consider doing this outside or over a trashcan.
Mill Essential
- Remove the filter drawer in the back of your Mill.
- Turn the hand screws counter-clockwise and remove the green filter lid.
- Empty out the spent charcoal into the garbage.
- Open your filter replacement bag and pour the entire bag into the drawer. We recommend doing this step over a kitchen sink - as it can get a bit dusty.
- Gently shake the drawer back and forth to make sure the charcoal is level.
- Then, toe-in the green filter lid into place and use turn the hand screws clockwise to secure the lid.
- Slide the drawer back into your Mill. Make sure it clicks into place.
Mill Plus
Replace and recycle the activated charcoal in your canister
- Open the rear door of the Mill.
- Remove the old canister and follow directions below to recycle.
- Pop open the lid (like paint can) using a flat head screwdriver or butter knife.
- Put the spent activated charcoal in the garbage. We know this doesn't feel quite right, but it's okay! Burying activated charcoal is a form of carbon sequestration, so putting it in the trash won’t add emissions.
- Peel off and dispose of the foam along the top edge.
- Place the metal canister and lid in the recycling.
- Take off the packaging and stickers from the replacement canister.
- Put the new canister upright in the drawer and slide it back into the Mill.

- Remove the old filter from your Mill and place it aside. Be careful — it might be a little dusty.
- Grab your new carbon filter and remove it from the shipping box. It may look a little pre-loved. That’s because it was used by another Mill customer and we refurbished it for you.
- Peel off the sticker completely from top to bottom - you may want to do this over the sink as it can be a little messy.
- Place the new canister in your Mill in the same location as your old canister.
- Replace the back panel, snapping it into place.
