What is “Cycle Frequency"?
Cycle Frequency is a setting for your bin that allows you to control the amount of scraps it takes for the bin to start a cycle at its scheduled time. If you don't see the option, this means you are likely subscribed to Mill Pickups, which doesn't allow for frequency changes. There are currently two choices:
- “Runs on smaller batches” which requires about 150g or 0.22 lbs (~2 banana peels) to start a cycle: this is currently how your bin works
- “Waits for bigger batches” which requires about 500g or 1.1 lbs (~5 corn cobs) to start a cycle
Setting your bin to “Waits for bigger batches,” will reduce your bin’s energy usage by about ~20%. It’s like waiting to run the dishwasher when it’s full, rather than running it half empty.
The energy savings may vary based on how much you're currently adding to your bin on a daily basis, and energy rates in your area.
For example, if you are already adding > 1.1 lbs to your bin each day, you may not experience energy savings changing your bin to “More scraps, runs less often.” Regardless of how much you add, the bin will still run every 4 days to ensure Food Grounds stay dry.
