Download the Mill app
Download the Mill app on your phone from either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, and follow the prompts to get your kitchen bin set up and connected to Wi-Fi. The app will walk you through setup, installing your charcoal filter, pairing, putting in kitchen scraps, and understanding what happens next.
Choose a location for your kitchen bin.
Tip: Before moving your bin, take out the bucket and charcoal filter and set them aside. It’ll be much lighter that way.
We designed the Mill kitchen bin to be in your… kitchen! So it’s convenient to add kitchen scraps while cooking or after meals. But if the kitchen isn’t the best spot for your bin, here’s a quick list to help you find the right spot:
- Indoors: in a space that stays between 10°C (50°F) and 30°C (86°F) and not where any pests may hang out.
- Near an outlet: the bin needs to stay plugged in, so find a spot within 6 feet (1.8 M) of a 3-prong outlet.
- On a hard, flat surface: the bin’s scale is in the feet, so make sure all four feet are firmly on the floor and not wobbling. Surfaces with rug or carpet are too soft for the scale to work reliably.
- In a well-ventilated area: to allow for proper airflow, place the bin at least 6 inches away from all walls front, left or right and in a well ventilated space.
Install the charcoal filter
Open your bin’s lid, take the filter out of the bucket, and peel off the sticker completely from the top and bottom. Then open up the back cover of your bin by pressing on the top, remove it and put the filter in.
Plug it in and connect to Wi-Fi
Plug your device in and wait until you see a blue pulsing light.
